If you have been noticing gradual facial volume loss but feel uncertain about undergoing traditional filler procedures, Juvelook Volume may have already come up as an alternative option.

However, concerns regarding discomfort, swelling, and the longevity of results are very common among patients considering this treatment.

As a physician who has performed this procedure on a wide range of patients, I would like to provide an honest and experience-based perspective grounded in clinical practice.

1. Pain Associated with Juvelook Volume

Pain perception varies significantly from person to person, which makes it difficult to define the experience in absolute terms such as “painful” or “painless.” Instead, a comparative approach with other commonly performed procedures can offer a more practical understanding of what to expect.

Juvelook Volume is delivered using a cannula—a blunt-tipped instrument designed to distribute the product smoothly and evenly beneath the skin. To facilitate cannula insertion, a small entry point is first created. At this stage, a local anesthetic (lidocaine) is administered, which typically causes a brief sharp sensation.

Following this, as the cannula moves through the subcutaneous tissue, patients may experience a dull, pressure-like discomfort rather than sharp pain.

Based on patient feedback at Ode Clinic, the average pain level is reported to be approximately 6 out of 10. For better context, here is how it compares to other treatments:

Note: Individual pain tolerance can vary considerably.

In general, Juvelook Volume is not considered highly painful when compared to other lifting or skin booster procedures. Another advantage is the relatively short procedure time, which typically ranges from 5 to 10 minutes.

For patients with lower pain tolerance, the use of a topical anesthetic cream prior to the procedure can further improve comfort.

“What about sedation anesthesia?”

In most cases, I do not recommend sedation for Juvelook Volume treatments. Achieving natural-looking volume requires careful assessment of facial contours under the influence of gravity. This is best done while the patient is in an upright position.

When sedation is used, the patient remains in a supine position, which can make it more challenging to accurately evaluate areas of volume deficiency and perform precise corrections.

2. Post-Treatment Swelling

Because Juvelook Volume is specifically injected into areas where volume has diminished, any swelling that appears immediately after the procedure often resembles the intended final outcome. In fact, many patients find this initial fullness aesthetically pleasing and report that it does not significantly interfere with their daily activities.

What Causes the Swelling?

Juvelook Volume is supplied in a freeze-dried (lyophilized) form and must be reconstituted with saline prior to injection. As a result, the immediate volumizing effect observed after the procedure is largely due to the injected saline, combined with a small amount of fluid accumulation (exudate) caused by the mechanical movement of the cannula beneath the skin.

This early-stage swelling is temporary and is typically absorbed within 2 to 3 days.

It is quite common for patients to feel that the effect has “faded” shortly after this period. However, from a clinical standpoint, this is expected—because the actual collagen-stimulating process has not yet begun at this stage.

3. Duration of Results (Longevity)

The active component of Juvelook Volume, PDLLA (Poly-D,L-Lactic Acid), remains within the tissue for approximately two years. During this time, it gradually stimulates the production of new collagen, which can persist for several years beyond the initial treatment period.

From a theoretical perspective, this suggests that the effects of Juvelook Volume can last two years or longer.

Clinical Observations

In real-world clinical settings, outcomes tend to align closely with this expectation. Based on my experience, the majority of patients retain over 80% of their peak results even after two years following the initial treatment series.

This sustained improvement is one of the key advantages that differentiates Juvelook Volume from more temporary volumizing treatments.

4. Recommended Treatment Protocol

Given its long-lasting mechanism of action, Juvelook Volume does not require frequent repetition. The following protocol is generally recommended:

  • Initial Phase (Volume Building):
A series of three sessions, each spaced approximately one month apart

  • Maintenance Phase:
    A single touch-up session every 1.5 years

“What if I’ve completed three sessions but still want more volume?”

In such cases, patience is essential. Collagen regeneration is a gradual biological process, and it may take several months for the full effect to become visible.

If, after approximately six months, the desired level of volume has not been achieved, additional treatment sessions can be considered.

However, it is important to approach this cautiously. Excessive use of collagen-stimulating agents may increase the risk of fibrosis, or tissue hardening, which can compromise natural softness and flexibility.

For patients who continue to exhibit volume deficiency after three properly spaced Juvelook sessions, I often recommend combining treatments with hyaluronic acid-based options such as fillers or Hilo Wave. This approach allows for a more controlled, natural, and refined result.

Final Note

Each individual’s facial structure, skin condition, and response to treatment can vary. Therefore, a personalized consultation with your treating physician is essential in order to develop the most appropriate and effective treatment plan.

I hope this detailed overview of pain, swelling, and long-term maintenance provides a clearer understanding of what you can expect from Juvelook Volume.
